Hey guys whats up I just picked up a 2002 Polaris Scrambler 400 4x4. Its the blue and yellow version with a aftermarket exhaust of somtype. I actually got it from a chevrolet dealership in onieda new york, some guy used it as his down payment on a car he baught. It is in nearly perfect condition with very very low hours. Im just looking to see what are some of the main maintance items to watch on these things? Also what is the best 2 stroke oil to be using in her, like should I use the cheap stuff for weedwackers and chain saws and what not, or should i be buying stuff from the ATV store that is kinda $$. I just wanna make sure its getting the right oil because in my mind thats the most important for a solid reliable motor. Im not looking for a machine to hit jumps im just looking for somthing to climb some good hills and play in the mud and do some good trail riding. Any input in greatly appreciated guys, have a good one

If you ride ALOT you might go through 3-4 qts a year.
Buy a good synthetic INJECTOR oil from a dealer and you will have very few problems with it.
I say use synthetic for less smoke and smell but regular will work

Oh thats all you go threw I figured it would go threw 1 or 2 quarts for every tank or so. Ive been doing a bit of reading and found that the clutch should be adjusted when there is a aftermarket pipe, is that correct? Any way to tell if it wasn't adjusted? I didn't get to see the brand name on the exhaust system but it definatly looked brand new realy shinny. I have a polaris dealer in my area so ill make sure to get my 2 stoke oil from them. As soon as i pick it up im gonna read the compression on it any one now what numbers i should be looking at? I have a proffesional compression tester kit with 6 or 7 adapters so i think it should work fine.

I read about people shreading belts once in awhile if any one has any idea when this happens is it somthing theat is realy $$ or not to bad. Is it somthing a average Do-It-Yourself kinda person could do?

Thanks for any input or advice givin guys greatly appreciated!

in most cases you can go 2 to 3 fill ups to 1 tank of oil. there is really no adjustment on the clutches. if you have a pipe on it you put a k&n filter in and a clutch kit. that is differnt weights and spring. this is the most effective way of gaining power hp out of the 2 strokes. as far as belts as long as the clutches are alighed right there shouldnt be any shredding isusses. i ran polaris gold synthe. oil in our 2 stroke t.blazer. with good luck. it comes in a gallon can.

Cool thanks for the help man! In your opinion is it somthing you can tell with the average human eye if the belts are out of alignment? lol I just like to make sure any machine I have is running the way it should be. Can't wait to pick her up. Not a bad for 2grand, and with like 32 hours on it lol not even broke in.

if you want to go thru the trouble of pulling off the clutch cover, you could inspect your belt for damnage but if it was me i wouldnt worry abou it w/ it being faily new. drive it and enjoy.
