Default Sun L 70cc and 90cc charging system?

At what RPM do I run the engine at to check the 12volt charging system on either of these two ATVs to see that the charging system is actually putting out ample voltage to recharge the battery?I have a 12 volt tester that I'll hook-up to the battery, but I dont know how many RPMs I need to throttle the ATV up to check charging voltage? What should my charging voltage read when I get to the right RPM?

I dont want to run out and buy a battery if my charging system is not working?

Thank You folks much for your assistance.

Bill

it's easy to check the charging system, start the quad and then remove the ground wire off the battery, the atv should remain running, if it doesn't then you know you got a problem.

I know thats the way we use to do it in the old days with our cars, but even if the ATV stays running, it may not be charging at maximum capacity, thus allowing for a slight charge on the battery instead of the full charging capability.

I'd sure like to know what RPMs I should check this charging system out at and what my voltage should be reading to make things more accurate?

Default Sun L 70cc and 90cc charging system?

I charged the batteries last night and put the voltage meter on it this morning. With the engine running at about 2000 RPMs, one 90cc reads very close to 16 volts [over charging?] and the other 90cc barely reads 13 volts at the same RPM. So it 'appears' to me that one charging system is OVER CHARGING and possible burning up the battery, and the OTHER 90cc is not charging enough to keep the battery charged.

Is there a voltage regulator that can be changed?

voltage regular sunl part part#REG110 fits sunl -90, sla110A, sla150A, cost looks to be $18.00, their's also a smaller one REG815 fits sla50, sla70 cost is $12, these prices are from the sunl group web page so lots of luck ordering it from them.
