Kids ATV Wheels and Tires
#1
I recently bought my son his first ATV...a Hensim 50/70. So far I am happy with it, and it actually seems pretty fast for my $500 (They claim 35 mph). That being said, it seems to fast for the short wheel base and track and center of gravity. Case in point, my son has ridden it about 10 times now, in the the driveway and on the lawn. The other day, we was pushing it into the turn, and flipped it. I saw it coming, but I didn't have the remote control to kill it, as he seemed to have gotten the hang of it. I brushed him off and high fived him for not being freaked out by it, but it made me think....
The wheels and tires are too narrow, and the track is too narrow. I looked into wheel spacers, and it basically has the 3 bolt on something (by my measurement with a junky little ruler the studs seem to be around 80mm apart on center) because the brochures for these Chinese quads are pretty crappy. The wheel studs are 8mm and the tires are 145/70-6.
What I am getting at after this long post is.... I am wondering if anyone knows if larger wheels and tires are available for the rear of this thing, in the 3 bolt pattern. Or should I forgo the wheels and tires, and just get some wheel spacers. I have seen the spacers that screw onto the studs, and extend it by 1.5 inches on each side.
Any ideas????

Me and a friend took and redrilled the rear hubs and replaced the front with racing go kart style, and mounted 6" douglas kart wheels with a more outward offset. The front ends up being about an inch and half wider than the rear but it actually looks cool. I put this on another post and I will try and get some pictures if you like. JGH
