Need help to make DS50 quicker please
#1
My 9 year old is getting better on his Bombardier DS50, so I'd like to modify it somewhat to make it faster... Looking for help from
the experts here on the forums! (I'm not budgeting for a bigger ATV for him until next year!)
...I've already removed the restrictor washer in the intake tube, and also the spark screen (which was completely clogged, anyway). We've also added a small dose of octane boost to the fuel. It's definitely got more off-the-line power, but seems very restricted "up top".
Do those "booster cans" sold on EBay for small engines actually work, or is it just hype?
Any idea how to disable the governor?
Any sugggestions are appreciated! Thanks, Mike

Absolute hype. You also have a restrictor in the front variator. We have raced the 50cc bomb and dune rode with it. Theres lots of good cheap tricks and mods to help it. There is also a free exhaust mod worth about 50% more oomph out of it. If you spend about $300 or $400 on it with the right mods it will be a 90cc killer.

Thanks for the reply. OK- not sure what the front variator is, however. Please advise.
I'll steer clear of the Booster Can.
Wondering what 300-400 spent will do? Please elaborate!
Many thanks- Mike

+not sure if your unit has a built in rev limiter but if so you need to change the cdi to a no rev limit unit, for $400 you could get a pipe with clutch kit and a high compression head. this would make a world of difference. the boost can or boost bottles as i call them do work but not the cheap ones from ebay. i would stay from the ebay parts, most are advertised to fit all mini quads and some do and some dont. buy your p[arts from a dealer such as wrh who can tell you what parts will fit your unit and make sure the parts you buy will work together for the best performance.

I agree with HQR. His boy raced the same bike as you have. $400 will get a pipe, clutching, jetting, head, and porting fixed and it will be a fast fun ride. At the dunes the ones setup right will go anywhere. I just did a 70 kit, pipe, clutching, porting, case mods, timing advance, with a 20mm carb for a friends boys 50 and it outruns Blaters to 300 feet at our track.

That all sounds very do-able. The overall price is decent, as well... I don't have much confidence in our local Bomb dealer, so would you have any online sources for these parts? Maybe part numbers for a new CDI, pipe? Thanks again!!! Mike
