I just bought a 2004 Polaris Magnum 4x4 and I am having problems with the belt.
I kept hearing a strange sound, essentially the drive belt hitting against the plastic gaurd. Then the belt fell apart.
I bought a new belt and right away I can hear the belt hitting against the plastic gaurd.

Any ideas what is wrong?

 

is it out of line.or is the guard on wrong where its hitting the belt.

 

Thanks for the info, I will take the guard off again and take a look at it. Is this something a dealer needs to look at?

 

Sounds like it is not on right or the cover in someway has warped

 

sounds like you didnt get all the belt shredds out before installing the new belt. theres prolly old belt shreds in there still.........

I thought I got all of the old belt shreds out. I don't think the guard is warped.
When I put the new belt on, it was rather loose. I know I got the right belt because I looked it up in the parts manual. How loose is the belt supposed to be?

 

my friend has a magnum 2x4, and his belt only lasts about a month or two months if he's lucky. im gonna ask the dealer if anything is up with this. ill inform u if anything happens

I figured out my problem. There were pieces of belt all over. I ran it a while with the guard off and it kept shooting out pieces of old belt. Now it sounds just fine. So far so good. Hopefully everything stays O.K.

 

Make sure you use low range when you are going slow or pulling or carrying heavy loads. Makes the belt life alot better and alot better on the clutches.
