Chinese ATV - no spark. Common problem?
#1
I just bought a Chinese made ATV - title sez the manufacturer is ZSMOT (never heard of them).
It was running great - we ran through 3 tanks of gas between my daughter and the neighbor kids riding it. It just quit once. We got it restarted and then it quit again and will crank - but no spark (pulled plug and checked).
Is there are common failure point to start with on these little Chinese 50s? I'm guessing the coil is bad. Any advice appreciated! Thanks

Sometimes it's just a ground screw backing out. Other times I've had to check the connections going into the various kill switches. My experience after a year and a half has always been something simple like that. Like people say on here, if you don't like to wrench don't buy a Chinese quad.

Most times for me it is the spark plug. if your engine uses a A7RTC( or something like that) Use a NGK C7HSA and replace that piece of junk plug. If replacing the plug does not help try disconnecting the (1) black and white from the cdi and try starting it. if it starts that means that there is something wrong with the kill switches. Just ask for more inf if needed
P.S. If you disconnect the wire from the cdi , you have to disconnect the spark plug wire to turn the atv off.

Thanks - I'll try the simple stuff first. What is the correct plug gap? I just bought a new NGK plug just before I read your post! I will also check all connections.

yamoto150owner,
Excellent advice! I changed the plug out and she fired right up.
Now, I have another electrical problem. I think this will be my first & last Chinese quad.
While I was putting the plastic back on, I wiggled a four way connector and the quad just shut off. The fuses are good, all the connections look good. I'm not an electrician by any means.

Hey, I own two chinese atvs and they run pretty good. I haven't really had the chance to beat them up to much but they have preformed quite well on the railroad grades by my home. My wife has a fully automatic Komot 150ST and I have the 4 spd Komoto 250stw. I too need to replace the spark plug for the 250STW, the OEM is an LG D8TC and it is a piece of junk. Do any of you know the conversion to NGK? or any other brand?
