My DS250 needs more power
#1
Anyone have any solutions to making the DS250 move faster? We ride mostly on the sand on the Oregon Dunes and so far I think my old Polaris 90cc Scrambler was atleast as fast as this thing. My son rides the DS250, we added paddle tires, ITP 20" sand stars and this thing is a tank! I have a Polaris Phoenix that will wax it all day with same size paddles.......I like the handling of the DS250, but I'm tired of pushing up little hills, we've had it a little over a month, 3 w/e rides so far and I'm disappointed to say the least! The top speed is maybe 40 with the dirt tires I suspect........is there a limiter somewhere to bypass other than the screw on the throttle? Exhaust systems available? How about a front bumper that protects the radiator?

If there isnt exhaust avaliable there are universal mufflers that just need to be welded on and fabbed up a bit...i would put a muffler on it, rejet, and filter and airbox mods, anyway to lighten it up a bit?

Check out Kymco's website. The Mongoose 250 is what you really have, just rebadged for Can-Am and Arctic Cat. They do make a clutch kit, which will help a little. Should be able to find a slip on pipe that will work. Now if someone besides Can-Am offered nerfs for it (234) that don't look like a modded lawn chair.

Lol, I know I should've bought the Suzuki Z250 or the TRX, wasn't sure it my kid was ready, now my daughter is blowing by him on her Phoenix! I appreciate all the posts, I'll start looking for Alias Mongoose mods for now, I was hoping to rotate this one out with the Phoenix next year but now having second thoughts............I will say, the DS250 does handle nicely, if and when I've rode it, I like the ride and the steering response...........426lbs....I'm looking for weight reductions all the time.....lol
