Rode the new sp800 and raced it.....he beat me!!!

I went to my local polaris dealer and rode the new 800 sportsman. They have about 20 acres with trails, ruts, ditches and open fields to ride. WOW......that thing rides like it is on air. The best ride I have ever had. And there was no bump steer at all. I hit a ditch at about a 30 degree angle and was just using my right hand on the throttle and it did not jerk one bit. AMAZING. I had my bf750 with me because I was heading out to the deer lease so I unloaded it to ride with the sp800. That way I could get a direct comparision on the same terrain. The v-twin motor is awsome, but it stops there. With the body roll that I have on the front and the bump steer along with the front end diving in corners, I could not keep up the the guy on the sp800 through the trail route. Then we lined up on the 150 yard field they have and raced. HE BEAT ME BY 1-2 QUADS!!!!!!! Holy cow. Whats up with that? Anyway, I have might sigts now on the sportsman 800 X2 deluex.

That new x2 is a nice quad. I am looking at it and the can-am, but I dont like the back seat on the can-am as good as the x2. My wife think's she would like the higher back seat of the can-am but I like the different way's you can configure the x2. I am a little supprised it beat your brute, thats nice to hear tho because I like the brute's power but the handling isnt to good. The x2 is looking better all the time!

Not sure what is up. The magazines say that the BF should win. Once again, what's on paper != real life in this case. Is it possible the dealer tweaked his sportsman? I would think a slight airbox modification might help those things breathe a lot better. They already have a great exhaust system.

Well, to be fair, my bf750 is running a little rough. It is backfiring sometimes and missing through the breather. I also am running 27" ITP mudlites with the addition of a passenger seat cargo box, front mesh metal rack, aftermarket front and rear bumpers and spot light. That is extra weight. When we did race, we both got a good start. I had the lead up to about 50 yards and then he pulled up to me. At the 75 yard mark, he started pulling away. I have raced some 05 sp800's and have beat them by about 1 quad length. Maybe since mine is not running great and the added weight with larger tires is the reason, but when I rode that 07 800 sportsman, it was totally amazing.

I'd say even with the accessories on your BF you're probably still lighter than an undressed sportsman ...

However, the 800 sportsman is an amazing quad. Imagine if it were lighter. But, personally I like the weight for the ride and pulling. I have now decided to purchase a 2007 sportsman 800 X2 deluxe. I personally enjoy everything about it for my riding style. Not sure if my wife will let me keep the bf750 too, but it is worth a try. But, no matter what I do, I have to put it in the shop to find out what is going on with the carburetor. Glad I purchased the 4 year extended warrenty.
BTW NLWarrior01, very nice sportsman 500. I sure do like all the polaris accesories and the lock-n-ride system. How fast does your 500 run?

It's not a very fast quad. Not near as fast as my old Warrior was, though it's nearly as quick up to 50mph.
The very fastest I got my sportsman going was 60mph, downhill, banging off the limiter @ 6900rpm. My warrior on the exact same hill hit 68mph (according to the trailtech speedo I had).
Typically though, I can hit 55 on the flats even if it's windy, but it takes some room. It hits 50 in under ten seconds, but 50-55 takes a while.
