Default Lectron 48 mystery? Any one had this happen?

Took her out for one last ride before tearing her down. The bike ran like an animal, Ive been playing with tires and suspension set up. Randall tuned her up at Dunefest which was a huge improvment. Im not kidding the thing just flat hauls it has never run that good. I even ran against a street bike converted banshee getting beat by only two length's without nitrous. I was stoked. That was on Sat. Sun day a whole different story I started getting some throttle sticking issues late sat. so I checked the cable routing ( new cable with the 90 degree bend) No problems there smooth as silk, I cleaned and lubed it anyway. Then it started sticking mostly around low rpms about 3000rpm then gradualy got worse to the point it would stick wide open and I would have to wick the throttle hard to get it back down. We were miles from the truck and it was getting pretty harry to ride. I got to thinking maybe she was to lean and not enough fuel to lube the slide. The needle was spot on for the motor, Randall even agreed when he tuned it. I richened it up a half turn to see if that would help. It worked for about 10min then right back to sticking. Tried it again same thing. I went the other way with the same results. Anyone got any ideas? Im running VP C-14 fuel would that have anything to do with it? Worn out spring maybe not enough pressure to close it all the way? Time to rebuild it Ive had it for a couple seasons? The bike ran so well that I am seriously considering tearing it down and going another direction.

Scatter, Over time there will be a coating form on the outside of the slide. I suggest you taking off the slide and lightly sanding it down with some very, very fine paper just to clean off the coating. Lube it up good and it should work like a new one. I have also heard of a few people having the slide anodized.

What sort of lube should I use? I have a micro mesh polishing kit that goes from 800grit to 12000grit I could polish it to a high gloss What about the slot that the slide sits in? Is it possible to get to that also?

Scatter, I have the exact same set up and I'm using the same fuel. I have not had this problem, but that doesn't mean I won't. I would also check that slide to see if you can find a spot that looks worn from rubbing. Light sand and polish and see where it leaves you. I don't run the 90 and my straight cabling route seems to work the best for me. Good luck and DEFINITLEY let us know what you find.

I just lubed my cable with some WD-40 and of course I sprayed the slide with the same thing and it worked pretty good. I did sand the slide as well.

Update and another question. I went ahead and got it apart and it was pretty sooted up. Ive cleaned and polished the slide I also split the carb to get into the channel where the slide sits. I noticed that the two halves have some sort of sealant mating them together. Anyone know what to use to replace that sealant? or do I need too? I have a little bit of wear on the slide on the bottom edge motor side. I can totally see why she was hanging up.

When you said you got it apart, you meant ALL the way apart That's all right, I did the same thing. Don't know if you have to seal it back up, but it won't hurt anything. When I put mine back together I used Permatex high temp silicone gasket maker (the orange stuff and just because that's what I had handy). I put a very thin layer on then smoothed it out with my finger. You don't want any squishing into the carb when you put it back together.

I was going to just clean and polish the slide but I just couldnt resist opening it up and cleaning the slot. Very much to my surprise there wasnt any springs or thingy ma bobs flyin out of it when I opened her up. I found some what looked to be galling on the sides of the slots. I scrubbed it up real good with carb cleaner and smoothed it out a little with some 800 grit. I did the same with the slide. I figured a little bit of permatex and I would be good to go. What about yamabond would that work?

That's funny, those were my thoughts exactly when I took mine apart, and I think yamabond would be fine. But again, a word of caution. If you get too much on there it will squish right into the path of the slide, and then you get to take it apart again.
