Default sputter and backfire

I rode my 99 warrior for about an hour today then it sat for a couple hours. Then I was giving my nieces rides around the yard on it. It was running fine and i turned it off to talk to someone then when i turned it back on it ideled fine but now when i hit the gas it just sputters and eventually backfires and keeps running but just sputtering it still idels fine though. Any ideas? I changed the oil in it yesterday and i filled it almost right up to the top oil fill line by accident but I dont think that would have anything to do with it, would it?

Sounds like the most common problem with warriors, the parking brake switch on the clutch perch gets stuck, and sets a rev limiter around 2,000 rpm, just enough to get off idle. It could also be something like a clogged jet in the carb, but i'd go for the easy stuff first and check that sensor on the perch. If you want to completely bypass it in order to prevent this from happening again, all you have to do is take off the headlights and hood, then follow the wire down to the harness where it plugs in, and disconnect it. It'll be a white plastic 2-pin connector.
