Blaster Carb Troubles, too Rich
#1
Hi I ride a 2005 Yamaha Blaster, I recently added an FMF Pipe, and am running an open airbox (last season I added a K&N filter as well, and it was fine, and I still have it on now). I was told I would need to change the main jet to accomodate the extra air flow from all this. So I tried a 300 (up from a 230 stock) and it was too rich, idle was rough, lots of smoke coming out the pipe, occasional LOUD popping, etc, which I expected from the 300. So I tried the 260 I had, exact same thing happened. At this point I decided to put the stock 230 main jet back in. And it was STILL doing the same thing. Running WAY rich, lots of smoke, very smoky idle no matter how i adjust the Pilot Air Screw, and when giving it lots of throttle, just pops loudly, shoots a lot of smoke out the back, and almost wants to die from flooding it seems. I'm wondering how this thing can be running RICH now with the stock main jet back in and added air flow. I'm guessing I must have screwed something up when I took apart the carb and put it back in but I have NO idea what. EVerything looks okay. Has anyone come across a similiar problem before or have ANY idea what I need to do to fix this? Supposed to be going riding on Saturday, but my bike is somehow running far too rich to be rideable even though the carb has been returned to stock. ANY help at ALL would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks everybody.
Sincerely
Sean

Maybe you put the float in upside down. Or didn't get the fuel valve thats the float controls in right. I didn't get my main jet tight and it fell out it ran the same way , but I doubt that is your problem. Here are some jetting guidelines Jetting. Theres also a online service manual on that site to help you get the carb back together right

Thanks for the jetting info, that'll come in handy later. I actually fixed the problem on Saturday out in Ocotillo. I had put the carb back together correctly, what was messed up was the Throttle Override System, it was continuously on for some reason whenever I started the quad. This is what was making it fall flat on its face. After disconnecting the main wiring harness and a couple connectors and reattaching it all, it ran fine. Just need to re-fine tune the idel screw, since I had been messing with it when I thought the carb was screwed up.

TORS stands for throttle overide system. Its designed to shut off fuel flow to your carbs if your slides get stuck open. All it does is cause problems though. I think there only on the banshee and blaster.
