I just replaced the rear bearings on my Raptor. I needed to replace the rear brake pads as well so I'm working on that know. I'm having trouble getting the piston all the way down. I'm using a 6" c-clamp to press it in and I've tried the drain some brake fluid but it won't go the last 3/16th of a inch. Anyone have any tips or tricks??

 

Did you loosen the brake caliper bleed screw? The piston should return all the way back when it's loosened.

 

I bet it's that annoying parking brake holding the pistion in. Back out the adjustment bolt on that thing and you'll be golden.

 

I tried the bleed screw, I also tried moving the parking brake lever back as far as it will go but I'll have too look at that again.

 

just moving the lever won't do the trick, you actually have to loosen the lock nut and back the adjusting bolt out of the caliper. As the brake pads wear you have to run that bolt in more for the parking brake to work, therefore when you put thicker pads in you'll have to move that bolt back out, or it'll prevent the piston from sliding back in. It's a poor system, that's why so many sport quads have the parking brake systems removed completely.

 

Yeah I"ve never moved that bolt before but I'll try it tomarow

 

I agree with removing the parking brake. I had the same problem on my Wolverine...I could not install the caliper. Once I removed the parking brake, it was good to go.

That parking brake set up is something that was designed in the 1980's; my three wheeler had a very similar set up. With all the advances over the last 20+ years, you think they would have didtched that craptastic setup in favor of something more reliable.
