cams piston cam springs install?
#1
I going to start off this thread by asking anyone who responds to NOT give advice on which cams/piston to go with, I'll make that decision on my own by reading older threads and talking to respective builders..so please don't go there.
My question lies on how hard it is to correctly install a new piston, cam springs or shim under bucket, and off course the cams themselves. Right now I'm at a basic stage one (except CDI..will come with this next step). Ported intake, 46HV, No-Toil, ODP disk end cap.
I'm far from a mechanical guru, but have been successful with the following on my DS:
Barnett 9 disk clutch
Sprag Clutch replacement
Axle removal and rear bearing changes
In the olden days, I did about 3 top ends on Honda TRX250R's...no 4 strokes though.
That kinda gives you alittle info on what I have been able to do.
If funds would somehow magically become available, I might be able to take it to a certain builder who is fairly close to where I live and have them do the instal, but that might be unlikely...wife is already not liking this sport at the time!
I know I could save alot of labor if the project wasn't impossible.....so how hard of a job is it for the average Joe??

its not as bad as it seems. first i would get a service manual from brp, then buy that little allighment "spelling" tool for TDC.
where ever you get your stuff "piston and cams" they will have a sheet with them to tell you the specs. i would get your stuff and i would be happy to walk you threw it.

It is not that hard, I would for sure pull the motor out of the bike to do it. I know it can be done in Chassis, but easier if it is on the bench in front of you.
Make sure you buy the tools you need : bolt to hold the crank, and have a good torque wrench
(I like my Snap on).
Take your time, don't rush threw anything, make sure everything is nice and clean when you put it back together.
I installed a big bore and rebuilt the tranny myself this year and it was not really that bad.
One more thing is you will need a special spring compressor to do the bucket conversion. I borrowed one from a local atv builder. It is almost impossible without the tool.
You can do it
Hope this Helps
