Default The best unplanned mod for my Warrior...

Basically...I bought a 2002 Warrior on ebay that had been neglected. I brought it home, serviced it and took it out for a good first date.

I quickly realized that the chain and sprockets were WASTED. The chain had crazy amounts of play, the front sprocket had broken teeth and the rear sprocket was worn horribly.

I went back to the dealership and ordered all new genuine Yamaha parts and went back to work.

When I got home I noticed that they had sold me a 13 tooth front sprocket instead of the 14 tooth sprocket it had. At first I was kinda pissed because I wanted to keep it stock but after riding it this weekend...It was f'in AMAZING.

The warrior is definitely an old pig but the fun factor was bumped up a couple notches with the new gearing.

If you're thinking about it...DO IT!

Here are a couple of pics from my riding spot:

not really

i still havn't had a chance to fully try out my 14 tooth front... but as of now.. i like it more than my 13 and it pulls alot harder than it did before... it's also nice to ride in an area where you have to shift alot with a 13T front.. but with the 14 it isn't as much...

13 is good for tight trails and such but if you are into any kind of racing.. have any perf mods or run fast trails/ areas... a 14 is the way to go

but in the place you ride( judging fro mthe pics) and you having a stock quad.. a 13 is probably better

It probably just feels different because your chain and sprockets were already wasted, and had lots of slack. Torn up sprockets and chains don't get power to the ground very efficiently. The stock gearing is 13/40 which is a good all-around setup for a warrior with no mods. But I didn't really notice any loss in power when I moved up to a 14 front sprocket, even with the taller rear tires.

personlly i think my gears are so short now that if i bump up to a 14 (stock is 13 right?) then i will actually gain acceleration because i can maximize each gear, now its like wow 1st gear is a whopping 9 mph at most lol..

I know what you mean. I switch between 12 and 14 tooth front sprockets, depending on the time of year, because I use it for pulling during firewood season. With that 12 tooth it seems like i'm spending more time shifting than I am on the gas because it pulls the gears so close together. Add the extra power mine has, and it's almost ridiculous how short those gears seem.
