Default Exhaust explosion!!!

Today riding on an open stretch at wide open throttle around 106km/h, the exhaust sound changed into a loud roar!!! I stop to take a look at what was going on, thinking I had lost my exhaust tip (it is removable on a Big Gun exhaust) but at my surprise I had two huge holes on both sides of my exhaust at an even distance of 4 inch from were the exhaust enters the canister. What happen in there, I don't know? But, I still had to ride about 10 miles to get home. From this unplanned modification to my exhaust, I felt less throttle response right on the bottom end, but from midrange to top end, in increase on throttle response now having a new top speed of 110km/h until I fix my exhaust, LOL!!! Default Exhaust explosion!!!

My exhaust pipes are wrap with that heatshield ruban like we use on header to protect my engine and radiator from exhaust heat. Could of that brought too much heat pressure in the exhaust to blow two holes in my pipe?

I have my 500HO pipe wrapped from engine to can(supertrapp) and the can gets extremely hot - turns the mounting rubber to charcoal. Considering either taking off from can to midpipe-or wrapping can also. Directions said wrap from engine to midpipe. Yes, it's jetted. Were any internal parts loose in can?

Any signs of rust? Those wraps hold water next to the pipe. And then the extra heat..................

Nothing was loose in the canister. I little bit of oxydation on the canister entrance put nothing serious and the canister blew open 4 inches further away, in the polished aluminum section. But the exhaust was wrapped to the pipe. Nextime, I will wrap it on till the mid-section. But, it sure took a lots of pressure to open it like that!

Got in touch with Steve Foster at Big Gun exhaust system. I sent him the pictures. Conclusion, no more packing in the exhaust to absorb the heat, so heat directly weaken the alumimun canister which easily open under pressure. He told me I have to re-pack the exhaust about every 20 hours of use. The warrantee has been expired for over two years now, and they are still going to only charge me 50% of what it costs to change the canister even if it was my fault!!! Thank You Big Gun!!!

Although having to repack the can every 20 hours or it blows up is INSANE ! Never heard of that before.
