In depth 800 primary question
#1
Some of you already know, and you've been guiding me along, I am wanting to put a 800 primary on my MV. I have a question, the MV clutch is ribbed to match the belt at idle, but the 800 primary is not ribbed, it is smooth. Does this matter? Should I still use the 800 primary. Were you veterans expecting this? If I still put the 800 primary on, should I expect to adjust the belt deflection to compansate a "pulley" thickness change? Please let me know, I am moving on it no more, until I find these answers out! Thanks guys!

After further review, I found out by looking at it, this is some kind of one way bearing. The 800 has it also, it is just smooth. Go ahead and continue?
What would happen if I put the 700 primary on an 800 quad? Besides loosing some bottom end, would it work, with the ribbed bearing and an 800 belt? Or, should I swap the one way hillard and keep the ribs on the 700?

The 800 primary will work just fine on your MV. If your putting the 700 primary clutch back on the 800 you should just switch belts also. The smaller one way bearing on the 800 primary clutch is where you will gain in performance. So take the 800 primary and 800 belt and put it on the MV. Then just take the MV primary and belt and put it on the 800.

Ok, that is what I just figured out, I came back o edit as needed on my previous posts. I got them both on as you have said. i saw the belts were definately different lengths, obvious to me now! Thanks a bunch. Around winter I plan on tackling a 800 header next!

Ok, I finally got the clutch on with the H/C weights set up like a 700. It took so long, because I misread the directions, and tryed to have my dealer set the belt to sheave clearance, but those shims are for the 700 primary. You probably already knew that! I called H/C, he told me to run the orange spring and grind the paint off so it would fit the 800 primary. I did that, but holy cow this thing now is ALL bottom end. I was only able to do about 37 MPH in about a 1/8 mile. I have no good comparision, but shouldn't it be going faster than that? I looked down, the primary was maxed out good, but I forgot to check the secondary clutch position. I love mud boggin', but I am going to have to tame this down a little, so it is trail worthy also! I mean, in low gear and 1/2 throttle, I am pulling the front up easily, remember this is an MV with 28" Zillas. I think that I will try the white primary when I get home, and look the secondary clutch position. H/C directions are very contradicting and the guy at H/C told me something totally different from the directions. I guess I will have to mess around with it, until it is dialed in the way I want it! Glad I waited to put the cover on!

I would take to orange spring out, I run it for a while but its just to much for the trails. Try the white spring that come with the kit it will be better for the trails than the orange. I run the Dalton Orange/Blue spring in mine and I'm very pleased with it.
