Default yamaha kodiak wiring problem

Am new to Atv's..My husband just got a 1999 yamaha 400 kodiak 4x4 and we are having problems he believes in the wiring system somewhere, we got a new battery for it, but for some reason it is not charging, anyone have any idea what might be the problem, and when it shuts off, he has a hard time getting it to go again.. Thank you

Theres some tests he can do, and a voltmeter is needed.
Have the voltmeter hooked up to the battery, and look at the voltage with the key off. It should be more than 12 volts. Now start the motor, and watch the voltage. It should be higher than what you just read when the key was off. It might not be much higher. Now slowly rev the motor to about 5000 rpms, while watching the voltmeter. It should rise with the rpms, eventually getting to 14.5 max. As long as it rises, and is higher than the key off voltage of the battery, it should be charging.
If the volts dont rise, when revving the motor, there are more tests which can be done.
Welcome to the forums.

Thank you so much, My husband checked out all the wires and found it was a fuse, and also found out that the battery we had got was to small for the bike, so will have to replace the battery..
