Do you need chains to plow snow, i'll be plowing a lot of wet heavy snow but it will all be on cement or black top. So do you need chains on back, on front and back or none at all. Thanks

I would not bother with chains. There is a good chance you may break something if the chains hook-up will pushing a big pile of snow. Chains are also hard on cement and asphalt.

I have been plowing on black top for the last 3 years using a 300 4x4 kaw on a up & down hill driveway w/o chains with no problem. I live in southeast MN. So I say chains aren't needed.

have a good day.

My answer is also NO.All my 4x4 quads [3 of them] have had snow plows,I have very easily plowed a foot of snow the approximate length of 100 ft at one time without the need for chains. You just need to take smaller bites with the plow blade in the real heavy accumulated snow,

Guys would your opinion be the same for plowing on ice? I was all set to go out and buy a set of chains for my 450ES because I was planning on using it to plow off drag strips on the local lake. Maybe I can save a few $$ here.

Thanks for any info.

For plowing on ice you would be best off getting chains to get the bite you'll need. But most other situations you shouldn't need chains unless maybe if you only have a 2 wheel drive.

If you are plowing snow on the ice you will should get good traction without chains. The snow leaves a rough surface on the ice, but if the ice is real shiny under the snow like a freshly flooded rink you may need chains.
