CRF600X Dirt Bike in the Works????
#2
No I have not, where did you hear of this???
I guess this means this is the official doom of the mighty XR650r? Although I'm sure privateer desert racers will be running it for some time now.
If they do come out with a CRF600, I would garauntee you would see it in a quad. Actually, with todays sale figures, I wouldn't be suprised if you saw it in a quad first.

It is talked up some in the dirt bike forums, like thumpertalk. Not quite sure how reliable their information is (if at all?).
As for a quad, when the XR650 dirt bike came out I said to myself that for sure there would be a TRX650 the next year. How many years ago was that...........

I, like you though for sure the XR650 engine would of been used years ago, but if they are making an all new engine, I really do think it would be used since the quads sell so much more than bikes. Just a thought.

reconranger, wow your still here- i havent logged on in years... we both know honda is timmid and they do not agree that bigger is better, I just visited a local Artic cat shops grand opening- they have 4" Class V reciever hitches!! Holy cow its a freakin quad not a power storke! Although, I did use my rubicon to park my 20' boat
I would expect honda to follow in 650CC and above engines, but not anytime soon. I here we can expect EFI on our current engines such as the CRF450X and TRX450R then they will start the big bore war for quads only, the CRF450R has enough power for anyone- they no longer sell the CR500R due to its power being "to much" and sales were low.
this is what i expect:
2006-2010: EFI and other cool 4 stroke ideas such as Vtech valve timeing used on ATV's
2010: Return of the 2 stroke, only this time they are Very clean buring and run super smooth, honda once had a prototype of this and it was awesome, evenrude outboards also use this new 2 stroke engine with awesome results!

Probably sooner than that, the AMA is days away from anouncing if they approved the new rules changes. No more 4-stroke handicaps, each class will be set by cc's.

it would be more fair is 4 strokes would be 1.5X the cc's of two strokes, then the 2 strokes would still have a lot more high rpm power, and the 4 strokes would have more low rpm power
i find it hard to believe that 2502s will be racing 2504s, everyone is going back to 2 strokes then. (what is the average power ratio of250 2 strokes and250 4 strokes- both completely modded to the max? wouldnt the 2 stroke have like 1.75X more power than the 4 stroke? or would it be closer to 2X?

yeah, if honda or any manafacture put as much work into "tuneing" a 2 stroke like they did 4 strokes the 2 stroke would easily have 2x the power, or maybe more.
Could you imagen a turbo charged direct injected EFI 2 cylinder 2 stroke? Holy freakin awesome

And sure it is fair, you're thinking of "peak" horsepower witch means nothing, in MX, it's all about the powerspread. This is GREAT for the sport because the little guy will be able to afford to compete once again.
