buying a raptor 350, what to look for
The Raptor 350 is a great choice for your wife.
The engine is bullet proof and there are no ongoing problems with the Raptor 350 at all. It has good power and works great on the trails for moderate riding. If she wants more power it responds great to a pipe and filter. It's weight is a little more nose biased, which is a good thing on the trails. You do not want to see the misses heading up a hill and see that front end start to raise up on her.
When we were looking for one, my wife liked the Raptor the best, but I think 90% of her decesion was based on looks and she likes the way the Raptor looks the best. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

My Wife loves her Rappy350...
We moved up from the Warrior... she liked the Warrior's power but hated it's handling, the Raptor is light-years better in that department....
I don't think there is really anything in particular to look for.... are you buying new or used?
If used the only thing to really check is the oil, make sure it looks decent after running it for a minute or two......
As was stated they are bullet proof for the most part and with basic maintenance should last forever......

They're good solid machines, but if they're abused there are problem areas to look for. The warrior is just the older version of the raptor 350, and the warrior has been proven to be a great, durable trail machine since 87 when it first came out. There were only a few upgrades when they switched over to the raptor 350, mostly shaving off some dead weight and making the ergonomics more comforable for aggressive riding.
The frames are weakest at the lower a-arm mounts and at the swingarm pivot bolt. Look over the frame closely for cracked paint or rust spots that could indicate damage from stress or bending.
When you start it and shut it off, listen for a clunk clunk sound as the starter turns it over. If they're transported in gear or bump-started often, the starter clutches are known to go out, but that's the same with almost all yamahas.
Other than that, there's really no big problem areas that wouldn't be dead obvious just from looking at it.
