double checking to make sure I don't need to bleed after oil change
#1
Well I just did my second oil change since I have had the quad and my bulbs in the dash have blown out on my 2001 ds650 so I can't really tell if the red light is coming on or not. I have the 2001 ds650 with the long filter so I am guessing they had fixed the problem by then. I just want to double check myself to make sure it doesn't go blow up. Could anyone tell me the symptoms, I just rode it down the street and it seemed fine, but if anyone could just give me heads up I would greatly appreciate it.

I have an '01,owned it for 6 years now and have never had to bleed.
look at the oil line coming from the tank going into the top of the motor - the metal elbow it connects to right behind the jug - if there is a small tee in this fitting with a small hose going from it back to the oil tank then you have the self-venting upgrade that allows self priming of the oil pump. most, if not all, '01 models have it, its the '00's that don't.
I recommend fixing the red bulb in the dash, it warns of both no oil pressure as well as overheating, dual purpose.
are you sure its blown, mine are 6 years old and never needed replaced, maybe its the power supply to them, maybe the wire is off? the sensors that feed the bulbs actually make the ground, positive comes from ignition switch to bulb, and the negative of the bulb runs thru the sensors and makes ground when they trip.
the oil pressure sensors are notorious for failing, I've replaced mine twice in 6 years. the coolant temp sensors don't fail as much, mine never has, but others have had to replace them.

Thanks Hightower I do have a small vent fitting towards the top/back of the oil tank I just wanted to make sure that I didn't need to do so...Before the other blew out I tried switching the nuetral plugs with the oil plugs so I could see the indicator light to make sure I was fine and I switched it back but the guy that had the quad before me beat the thing to death so I rebuilt most of it except the engine which still runs strong(what an awesome engine) but I will be sure to get it fixed as the lights are important(all connections are good and clean)...I appreciate you getting back to me Hightower.
