scrambler 500 won't start after sitting for months outside
#1
Hi guys,
I've got a 2001 Scrambler 500 4x4 & injured my shoulder & haven't ridden it since last January. It has been sitting out since then, in all kinds of weather & now won't start unless I spray starting fluid in it & quits as soon as the spray is used up. Any ideas? Thanks, Don

could be the fuel pump isnt working, could be the carb needs to be pulled off and cleaned from the gas that varnish up in it. i would start w/ the carb and drain the old gas out and put fresh in. make sure the shut off is working and not pugged up. is the plug wet from gas is it getting any to the plug?

clean the tank and carb.the gas went bad and has turned to varnish.make sure when you clean the carb not to get any cleaner on the rubber parts or they will exspand and be useless.

drain the fuel and get new gas
clean the bowl and jets on the carb (pilot and main) (actually remove,,,and make sure they are not obstructed)

I have the same quad and if it sets for more than a month I have to prime the fuel pump to get it to start and run. You may have some of the other problems listed but I would try the fuel pump first.
