Ok, so I bought an 03 400ex today and it has major nutty hotness and a reasonable amount of horsepower, at least when compared to my 300ex. However, the gas tank/side panel tabs are broken like on every other 400ex. Does anyone have an ingenious solution? (I have some ideas, but I'd sure like more) Thanks.

 

I have about 1/2 of mine broken off. I was considering making sheet metal replacement tabs with extension flap to extend under tank cowling. Then use two pop rivets for each tab. Would be strong enough but would not be pretty. After living with some broken tabs I have decided that to do nothing is better solution.

 

I used zipties when i had to take mine about .....works great

 

I was thinkin of both of those. However, I have a REALLY sweet variation of the first post, where you wouldn't be able to see it at all. I'll get back to ya....alot later. My bike is almost in every piece it comes into, besides the engine, because it is perfect. I was bored and it was dirty.

i noticed the tabs break a short time after you roll it. the fender mount lower bracket bends alittle pulling on the fenders and when jumping and hitting bumps they break off. yea i no, i broke all my tabs and finally figured it out on the 3rd set of fenders.

 

Buy a new 5 gallon desert tank, and ride all day!
