Another paddle tire question
#1
I am going to buy paddle tires for my two DS's. I have the 650X and the wife has the 250. I have asked around and heard differing opinions on size for the 650. The consensus on this forum looks like 22" is the way to go. I had two people tell me that for bottom end perfomance the 20" is better and that for top end the 22" is better. I won't be dragging or racing - just having fun.
Are there pro's and con's for both?
Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, the 22" tires are better for ground clearance and it seems the rotax engine likes the taller tire for some reason....must be the torque. LOL!
But if you are not really big into drag racing, I would probably get the 22" tires on 10" wheels so you can sling the rear end around a lot easier because of the stiffer sidewalls on these tires.

With 20"s you are much more likely to get stuck in soft or powdery sand. I recommend 22"s for the DS, no experience with the 250 but 20"s would probably be fine for a lighter weight quad.

Update - I went with the 22" (ITP Sand Star) tires and had a great time at Gordons Well this past weekend. I'm new to sport quads so I'll mention a few things I noticed while riding. On the positive side - I could get to the top of any dune I found with ease. I climbed every steep hill out there with ease. The suspension is amazing, I have a bad back and the ride was very comfortable at all times. The power to the rear wheels made for a lot of fun . On the negative side and some of it may be inexperience - I heard the chain alot, probably due to gearing with the taller tires, I would get stuck in the soft stuff at the top of a dune from time to time - weight maybe?, the rear shock has a leak, and my mini cooler doesn't fit too well in the new Armadillo six pack rack Coming from the John Deere Buck utility quad, I missed the reverse and the storage for tools etc. Overall I love the DS650X and can't wait to get back on it.
I only saw one other DS the entire weekend and it was a Baja.

what kind of air pressure where you running in them when you would get stuck???
what did you get for the 250? you don't need to go with performance paddles for it, as the sand geekos would probably do well with the 250, as well as the sand shark.
why the sand stars, and not the extremes???
