Default Glowing 450r headpipe

I just bought my new 06 450r today. I bought it brand new. And when i got it home i went up and down the road maybee 5 times. I ran through the gears but not wide open, maybee half throttle and when i pulled into my driveway the head pipe was glowing at the bend it makes. I shut the bike off and let it cool then rode it nice and easy down the road again. The same thing happened again. So i shut it off and am planing to call them tomorrow. Has this happend to anyone else? Anyone know whats causing that. This isn't my first bike and it have never happend to any of the other ones.

Thanks
Nez

It's running to rich. Take it back to the dealer and have them do the adjustment's. If you start messing with it it will void your factory warranty.

It's running LEAN! Honda jets lean at the factory to get it to pass environmental regulations. Do a rejet. Plus, these engines like to run so any time you ride slow, it is going to get hot even when properly jetted. (Or, looks like your are into motor mods, so just wait till you put on those mods.)

Break in (it may already be to late to seat the rings properly if you have been playing around on it!): http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Do an oil change at 1 hour (both engineoil and filter, and trans) to get an metal shavings out! Some good oil info: http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm

There are lots of posts on oil change intervals (change it often) and maintenence, so do a search and read those.......

Single wall pipes will glow some, it probably is normal. Have it checked by the dealer for peace of mind, however. 400ex's were also know for this.

Yea mine did this when I first got it and I wasn't too sure about it at the time but listen to what recon and trx250r told you, it is normal...Recon just one quick question I know I got a new filter for xmas what would you recommend jetting to since the factory does jet lean and I will be forcing more air...Just want to make sure that way I am not running lean...I am at about 100 ft above sea level and have an 07 450r...Thanks

Thanks guys. I called the dealership today and they said it was normal. I just hadn't ever seen that before and didn't want to hurt the engine.

Thanks again

It's alright I felt the same way when I first rode mine and I figured out why after a little just as you did...have fun with it, I love mine, how do you like it sofar...Also be sure to check the tranny and oil levels before you take it out and other maintanace such as chain, airfilter, and check/adjust the valves about every 10-15 tanks of gas...One other thing to watch out for on the 450r which many people wind up doing wrong and blow up their engine due to it is, make sure you have the oilfilter in correctly and pay attention do how you take it out and put it in. If you have any questions about the bike feel free to ask...wish ya the best of luck and happy holidays to you guys.
