2006 SPORTSMAN 500 EFI SPUTTERING
#1
Just got a new polairs 500 Sportsman EFI ,in may 2006. What a great machine. One month after the warranty ran out , the beast starts sputtering at low rpms, then starts back firing and just would not idel. Brought back to dealer twice, they still have not found the problem, polaris is sending out parts to the dealer, they are all being great, but the quad is still sputtering. Has anyone ever came a cross this problem before?????????????? The dealer said that this is the first EFI quad ?? That they dont have much expeirence with them yet. Please get back if you know anything. Thanks , Russ

i just picked up a leftover 06 500efi. so far i have just cruised around the yard, it still has less than an hour on it.
but when you let it idle for a little bit the rpms come down from about 1500 to 1000 to 850 or so, maybe running a little rough(fluctuating 850 to 1000), but runs like a dream other than that.
going to take it out tommorow for most of the day, i guess we will see. got to get some time on it and get it broken it. i ll let you know if anything changes.

had a buddy with same type of problem. Two trips to the dealer, and it is fixed.
No real cause was identified, but they worked on:
-Throttle Sensor/kill/cable adj.
-Replaced TMAP
-Flashed computer with update from Polaris

should idle around 1100 rpms. if it was a carb i would say its either got water in it or running lean but with efi it couls be sensors or a bad wire as mentioned robbing power to the efi part of it.

i got to take the new ride out for a few hours, got about four on the clock now with about 25miles,
idling right at 1100, ran like a champ!
what is the red line on the 500's, i am trying to take it easy on it, cruised it up to
about 5500rpm once or twice.
some of the income tax money is going to the 2 yr ext warrenty and a winch, just
not sure which warn winch and what size. (2.5 or 3.0) wire rope or synthetic....

this is strickly my own opinion, but i would really ask questions before buy the extended warr. like what it covers, and what it dont and under what, such as mud over their recommend highth. these may sound like stupid questions but i bet depending on the dealer it wont cover alot you might think it does. i know if i was to buy another bike i wouldnt pay the high price for the ext. which doesnt cover a whole hell of a lot. as for the winch the 2500 was good on my 500 but i went w/ the big boy for the heavy monest 800.

I'm having the same issue by my X2 500 EFI. In addition I had stalling particulaly when going uphill or downhill. Been back to the dealer twice. First time they adjusted the throttle cable, 2nd time they said it was a loose battery cable. We'll see if they got it right this time or not.
BTW, the dealer refused to reflash my computer (i asked), and told me that the reflash was only authorized for issues involving altitude of use, and had to be specifically authorized by Polaris for any particular machine. Not positive, but I smell BS. Not getting a rosy feeling about my Polaris product so far....
