Starter goes "CLICK"...then nothing.

1998 Polaris Trail Boss 250
Battery is good.
Pressing the starter button all I hear is a "CLICK" and then nothing. Fires up great with the pull start (even at 20 degrees and sitting for a week) on the first pull.
I've only had this bugger for a little over a month, not real familiar with all the Polaris mechs and quirks.
Will a starter rebuild kit fix it? A new starter? Or just a starter drive? Of course, I'm sure a new starter and starter drive would get it going - but I'm looking to save some dough on this repair because I'm also replacing the rear swingarm (busted at the left side mount).

The battery is good, I'll double check it again with the VM though.
The starter does not spin at all. All I get when I press the start button is a "CLICK" and that's it. Starts like a gem on the first pull of the pull start though.
Somebody on another forum recommended checking the starter relay before anything else (short across the wire bolts to see if it turns over).

The click is the solenoid. It is located near the battery.
If jumping the solenoid does nothing then it is the starter brushes.
You can replace them with this Starter rebuild kit or clean the armature and brushes. On mine the brushes where rusted to the holder and would not advance when they wore down. I cleaned them and now it works great.

I agree with Cmott426 that it is most likely the brushes. Mine was doing the same thing last spring and one brush was sticking. Cleaned it up and was good to go.......

If ya look real close you can prolly find the root cause of the problem......it should be spelled out on the side of your quad somewhere

Before you do anything that costs money, check to make sure your connections are tight. My Scrambler did the exact same thing and it was just a loose connection at the battery terminal. It just tightens up with a Philips screwdriver.
