A few issues with my 700 Grizz......

Don't take me wrong. I love this machine!! But there are few things that do consern me though. #1 The dip stick. Seem like a disaster ready to happen.
#2 The fuel cap Location. What a pain in the a#$ to fill with a can.
But all in all this is by far the best atv I have owned.
PS Whats this about naming everthing Grizzly?

I'm with you on the oil dip stick thing dog, they should have used a screw on type. I don't mind the gas fill thing too bad yet, but I do like the Suzuki and Kawasaki set-ups better with it on the rear fender next to the seat, sometimes I think Yamaha tries to make their stuff too clean, with covering the whole enine and now the fuel fill.
I don't really like the whole naming everything the same either, what's wrong with Kodiak and Bruin? I liked those names. I suppose now everything that has a IRS with Yamaha is a Grizzly now, oh well.

I guess the thing about the dip stick is that if a branch or something should get in there and kock it off then the engine will spit all the oil out in a matter of a few seconds. I know because I took it off once whit the engine idleing and it spit oil out good. With it turning up on the RPMs ,won't take long to empty out completely.

Is the oil dipstick plug plastic? I imagine if it was a problem, you could always use a tap and die set and make your own threads on the dipstick and base to make it screw in. Even if the plug is plastic it should still work. As far as getting thread filings in the motor just flush it out good with oil.
Just a thought.

I think 700 Griz owners just need to get used to the dipstick. After many years on all kinds of 2 and 4 wheelers the only risk with dipsticks is rider error in forgetting to replace it.
And the complaining about the gas tank fill nozzle is also weak issue. All my gas cans have spouts that work just fine on the Griz. If this is only negative for the huge benefit of the new low CG tank design then we are way ahead of the game.
My only issue is the easily scratched plastic and I got over that in about one ride. I don't understand why Yamaha doesn't use better tires on a top of line machine.
