What set-up is needed i.e. ('86 piston or spacer plate) to make an '89 cylinder AND piston work on an '86 stock bottem-end? A couple of people on another forum said I needed a spacer plate. So I called ESR to see if they had one and they said that the spacer plate would not work for my set-up. They said I needed to order a special "short-rod" piston from Wiseco. So now I am confused. If it helps, here is the top-end that my friend wants to put on his STOCK(we are assuming it's a short-rod since it is stock) 1986 bottom-end. Thanks for any help. Copy and paste.

87 thru 89 use a longer rod than the 86 so the cylinder is taller. that is why you need a short rod piston.
I have not seen this done but it would probably be a taller piston to make up the difference of the short rod.
