Raptor oil got full and smells like gas?
#1
Aright so I rode my raptor today for the first time in about 2 months because i have been pretty busy. So when im done riding I check my oil and its full to the very top. I had just changed the oil about 2 months ago the last time i rode it. I only filled it to where it said to on the dipstick. Now its full to the very top of the oil tank and it smells like gas. Can anyone help me out? thanks

well gas can get in because the rings are shot. my raptor is like that. its time for a piston in mine cause i noticed when my friend was ridin mine and hed get on it it would shoot out some blue smoke.... same as my old mustang did when i blew the rings out of it. and the oil had gas smell in it. i went bottle happy on that tho

check that carb reeeeel good cause I seized one up that was getting too much gas into the jug!!!not only did it weld the rings, it scarred the crap out of the sleeve and the shavings screwed the main bearings....DO NOT START IT AGAIN without fresh oil!!!!it will seize without any warning!!!!

do an oil chainge and ride it again and see what it does. if ur oil goes down after riding id say u need rings. its hard to do di-ag work without seein what ur dealin with. sounds like what i have and its time for new piston and rings for me.... idk why urs is full to the top tho.

Even perfect rings won't stop gas from leaking past a piston when sitting. Rings only seal well when under pressure from compression or combustion. I'm pretty sure you have a float or needle valve problem. This can happen slowly if the motor sits for a long time with the fuel left on. The gas goes into the carb and slowly evaporates off, refills a bit, then evaporates again.. at some point the valve sticks open.. or you just had a bad needle valve in the first place and didn't notice it until it sat long enough. The gas then just flows out the needle jet into the motor. On some carbs this would end up on the ground via a overflow line.. but at some point they made it so it just ends up in your motor. I'm not sure if it was an EPA rule or what. Clean the needle valves and seats on both carbs and see how it does. Otherwise you can buy valves and seats as a set.
