I work at a John Deere dealership and we carry Artic Cat four wheelers. I am a mechanic there and I see a lot of this. Basically with todays gas it deterates so quickly (were talking a month or less) that it will gum, or varnish and leave a residue in the carb. Also I've seen four wheelers come in and not even run on 3 month old gas and as soon as I hook are remote tank on they start and run great so this is to everybody that leaves there fourwheeler sit, use fuel stabul or sea foam. It works. What's going on in this sistuation is your needle on your float assembly that allows gas to flow into the carb the seat is leaking gas by (because of the varnish build up or gum) and allowing the carb to over-fill with gas and in turn filling your engine crankcase. Your piston/rings are not bad. I've seen this on many engines. So clean the carb and run stabu and you will not have anymore problems. Also you may not be able to get the seat clean enough, I've had this happen as well, were I had to order a new needle and seat.

To check to see if you got the needle and seat clean you can connect the carb up the the fuel tank and hold the float up and see, no fuel should leak by.
