I thought I answered your question on the chat about the scrambler 500.
Well I agree with farmr on how the 400 could be the better choice.
Go to this link I think it will answer all your questions about the versitility of the scrambler 400 2x4 or 4x4:

Scrammdaddy dont think that i dont value and appreciate your opinion. I do. Im just trying to get as many opinions as i can on what i should buy. I was also looking at the yamaha wolverine 4X4. Any advantages over a liquid cooled engine vs an air cooled one? Also reliability is a major issue with me on which one i choose. Are there any other sport/utility 4x4's i should take a look at?

Hi,
There is definitely an advantage with a liquid-cooled engine over an air-cooled engine. My Honda Rancher 4x4 is air-cooled and my Yamaha Kodiak 4x4 is liquid-cooled. I don't know what the advantage is, all I know is that my liquid-cooled Kodiak still has air intakes in the back and a radiator in the front that kicks in when the engine is hot, just like my Rancher. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about the engine being liquid-cooled or not. Air-cooled engines is the popular setup in ATVs and these companies know what they're doing.

Spyder Don't think I'm mad at you in fact I encourage you to ask for more opinions.
Your buying something thats going to thin out your pay check each week. It's best to get all the informantion you can on different machines before you make your final decission. I just had really good luck with buying a scrambler, you might buy a honda and like it.
Buy what you want, ride it and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Thanks for the reply scrammdaddy. After heavy research I think Im going with the scram 500 4x4. Now I think ill focus my efforts on maintnance issues. Because im going to keep this puppy running for years to come! I read that 7 tanks is a good time to change the oil. What about other routine maintnance? Is the owners manual a good guide as to when to do what?

Spyder I'm glad to hear that you are choosing the scrambler 500 4x4.
Now lets talk about your break in and routine maintanence:
The manual explains in very good detail on how you should break in the four stroke engine so theirs not much I can tell you there except don't get to anxious to ride it hard and risk screwing up your engine.
The routine maintanence is pretty easy what I do is every month I grease all the zerks, check the fluids, check the tire pressure, basically what the manual says.
When you go to wash your machine plug the exhaust and the air box intakes, you'll thank me later.
After your done washing and you gave the machine time to dry go out and spend a couple of bucks on a can of silicone and spray it on your whole machine I mean on everything, what it will do is put a protective and shiny layer on the parts you spray it on to prevent rust, corrosion, fading. It also makes your machine water resistant and add's lubrication to moving parts, spray it on all the electrics too.
Have fun and ride safe.
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW MACHINE!!!
