Removing Raptor Carburator
#1
What am I going to need to take off to remove the carburators. I know that I'll have to disconnect the air filter and the carbs from the head(and stuff rag in entrance). Will I have to remove the plastic? Can I just unscrew the top of the carburator off(are they still like that). I haven't messed around with any up to date carbs. just just 70's and 80's . Any advice will be appreciated!!

I don't know if there is an easier way, but I will tell you how I did it. You will need standard 10 and 12mm and screwdriver, I believe that is all I used. I removed all my plastic, then remove the tank (make sure fuel is off), then the airbox, the carbs are held on by the rubber airintake, just a simple screwdriver to get them off. You will then need to unscrew the choke, and remove the throttle. I personally took the throttle off from the handlebar and ran it through. First carb I ever took off, took about half an hour. Remember, make sure you buy the little round jets, standard Mikuni jets will not fit. If you are doing the BG at sea level it is 150 & 155 for mains, and 27.5 for pilots. Hope that helps.

You do not need to remove all of the plastic. I removed just the front cowl/fender section, the gas tank, and the air box. You do not need to remove the choke and throttle cable unless you plan on taking the carbs completely out of the bike. If you are just rejetting, the carbs come off as a unit and it is very easy to turn them over and rest them on the top frame members. They sit there very nicely. Then you just need to remove the float bowls and the jets are right there. The top of the carbs unscrew easily for access to the slides.

How hard was it to put that spark key on, did you have to remove the flywheel. Give me the details.
Thx

I have heard that Yamaha suggested lowering the needle clips on bikes that were blowing the carbs off the boots. I have not had that problem. I don't really think you will have to do anything with yours but every engine is different and you will just have to see how yours runs.
