With 13:1 you will want to be at about 110 octane. I hope that helps.

toulene is a paint attitave, anything over 100 octane will keep your engine happy.

Start at 10%. Dump it in, go out and read the plugs and look for signs of detonation. I would not go above 15% in any case. You should be fine at 10% at 13 to 1 and you will save a lot of $$'s over a year if you ride a lot. 13 to 1 is about the limit for making your own fuel. At least that is the way I see it.

doc i know a guy who says he is using lead substitute in his gas to bring his octane up, he is only running a 10:1 piston in a 300ex and he hasn't grenaded it yet. there any truth to this lead substitute?

There is all sorts of octane boosters on the market. Some good, some not so good. All different names and all different manufactures.
Unless you had a typo on the compression of your buddies piston he can run a 10 to 1 on regular gas. Sort of like I will sell you a bottle of elephant repellent, and you say but there is no elephants around here, and I say, see how good it works!!!
So to answer your question, yes some octane boosters work; some don't.
When I was messing with this stuff years ago, I would do like baseballx16x is going to do, make mine own with toulene. Worked good.

10% is 10%. It does not matter if you have 5 gallons or 500 gallons.
Take 10 gallons and put a gallon of tollie in and call it good. Or take a 5er of gas and put a half a gallon of tollie in it. Or take 2 1/2 gallons of gas and put a quart of tollie in it................................................ ....and on and on and on it goes.....................................

You may wish to try Max Lead 2000? Very good stuff as long as you don't have a catalytic converter. LOL

here is a link http://www.maxlead2000.com/
