2000 foreman 450s won't shift, the lever is free moving and it happened without warning. Any ideas?

 

If the shift lever moves w/out resistance then there is a broken part in the shift mechanism. Stand the atv on the rear rack and remove the front engine cover. Remove and inspect all the shift mechanism parts. More than likely it is the gearshift plate, I have seen a couple break.
