Need help please
I have a 2000 polaris sportsman rse I went to recently sell and was embarrassed when it wouldn't start. I have checked the battery and even used jumpers to ensure proper cold cranking amps. I tried a screwdriver across the starter solenoid and nothing. My neutral light will not come on, no clicks no sounds nothing. I have power to starter. Any ideas please.

Tap the starter and see if it engages. Dirt and dust can cause an armature to stick around the brush plate. Plus loosen the 10mm nut on the starter wire and wiggle it around then tighten it back down. May not have good contact. If you're getting power through the solenoid to the starter wire, could be time to replace the starter. They're cheap along with the starter bendix also in the recoil housing.DB Electrical - STARTER DRIVE Combo POLARIS ATV 325 335 425 500 PA102 COMBO If you're getting power to the solenoid r/w wire, but it's not jumping power to the starter wire(only if you jump the solenoid posts) could just need a cheap solenoid.http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-Ship-Starter-Relay-Solenoid-ATV-For-POLARIS-SPORTSMAN-500-1996-2002-/181850117797?hash=item2a571c96a5&vxp=mtr

Did you check if the small wire at the solenoid powers up when you hit the start button? If it doesn't you have problems else where. Plus do you have power to the lights, dash, etc? If not the 20 amp circuit breaker may be faulty.Located up from the battery on the frame. Use a test light or a meter to check starting at the circuit breaker if need be.

Through the forum only please! You don't know how many times I've been asked that or for my email. That's why I had to shut down even private messaging.Don't let something like this over whelm you. It's a process of elimination. Just check one thing at a time. Again do you have power to the lights, speedo first?

Check that you have power on each side of the red wires leading into and out of the sealed pouch located up from the battery. If you have power only from the battery side, split the pouch and check the circuit breaker. Usually they get corroded and short out. You can get a 20 amp breaker at any auto store for a few bucks. Here's what some can look like. This supplies the main power to the dash, ignition switch, left control switch and lights!
