400 ex swingarm bolt stuck.HELP
#1
I am working on a 2000 400EX and trying to pull the engine. This should be a simple task but as ussual something messes up..
I have all the mount bolts out and the nut off of the swingarm bolt. Now what is the secert to getting the bolt out of the frame and motor? You can take the motor and pull it up and down but the bolt turns with the motor.I have the rear shock unhooked with a jack under the swingarm. The swingarm bearings are shot and have been for awhile.
PLEASE HELP I am going nuts on this.

Well, let's see if I can help. You should have left the engine mounted up and drove the swingarm bolt out first. Try to mount the engine back up so it is somewhat solid. You got too many moving parts and you got the bearings in a bind. Probably even more if they are shot. With the motor mounted back up, try to drive the bolt out without messing up threads.

Looks like I will have to cut the bolt with a blade. The bolt and nut are messed up already.
You can move the engine and see where it is binding up.
As you all know I hate these things.Rather be working on my PoPO

There have been many threads about swing arm bolt on 400 EX and XR 400. Once you have a frozen bolt and the threads damaged from hammering just go ahead and cut the bolt. Install all new bolt and bearings. The bolt needs occaisional cleaning and greasing or it will sieze up like yours.

Got the motor out.Had to use a cut off wheel on the right side and a cutting torch on the left.
Got the motor out and swingarm off and now the swingarm is wore egg shaped and has a crack in the left hole. The kid run it for who knows how long with no bearings in the swingarm
Honda needs a way to grease the bearings and the bolt in the spacers to solve this problem.
Gease fittings are not a bad thing.
