Mantinence/Spark Arrestor Cleaning/Cold Weather Riding
#1
Alright, I have had my quad now for about 6 months now and I was wondering now that the cold months are here i don't ride my quad as much, but when i do it is very cold. So with all it's down time it has now and the extreme cold it is in, what are some of the routine things i should check and change. Also, I took out my spark arrestor today and it was very black. So what should I use to clean all the carbon off of it, is soap and water okay? Finally, is there anything I should now about riding in cold weather besides letting the engine warm up?

Winter is my favorite time to ride enjoy it!
First off remember that brake linkages tend to freeze and ice gathers there when riding in the snow. Also cold weather will affect jetting making it run leaner therefore a larger main jet is advisable.
As far as cleaning the spark arrester I do not believe soap and water would do the job, try oven cleaner and a steel brush or you could simply heat it up with a torch then use the brush.

Oh yes, it is great fun, I am putting my new RAZR's to work this winter in the snow. I have been getting into some snow that is about 18' and i can't get through but it is still a fun time.Would the freezing of the brake linkages cause the rear brakes to not work very well while riding. I was riding yesterday and i had to really pound down on the rears to make them brake.

yup, steel brush and rag will clean that spark arrester right up
i think your jetting will be fine since you only have an air filter no other mods...
i always use the air compressor and blow all the snow off my quad before i put it away....snow and ice always likes to sit near the rear brake caliper and freezes the caliper to the swingarm skit plate
