When ridding in oregon coast dunes, do you need sand tires or can you get away with dirt tires?

We always take the sand tires. On a machine with lots of overrev like the 450R, you could probably get away without them, but the smaller machines really do need them because they just don't have the umph to spin the regular tires.

I take it you have never been???? I love that place, because it has sand trails that run through the forest.....and we have precious few woods trails here in So. Calif. Got lots of big dunes around here, so I would never drive 1,000 miles for something I have in my back yard.

No i have never been there. I actually in idaho but i live in California and was thinking about going to the dunes. I have a 450r so it sounds like i should be ok to ride without them.

i have a 450 as well and i can just about climb all the dunes at the coast without the paddles. however , you do not have as much fun, the bike has so much more pull with paddles on it.

A 4X4 will do fine on the lower trails and smaller dunes, but I wouldn't try to tackle anything to steep because the heavy ute will just dig 4 big holes.
