Are there any online articles I can read that have a shoot out between the 400ex and other bikes? The reason I am asking is because I recently had a discussion with my cousin about the 400ex. I just ordered a new yellow one and my cousin has a 99 Warrior. He is going to buy a 400ex also, he made a statement that no other quad can beat a 400ex. Keep in mind that I am 30yrs old and been riding all my life, and he is 20 yrs old, been riding for less than a year and already "HE KNOWS ALLLL"! Even though I love the 400,am not nieve enough to think other bikes can't beat the 400ex at certain things, I am still buying one, butI am just trying to prove a point here.
I would like to prove that the 400ex is a great bike but not unbeatable. This all started when I was talking about a Tecate4 I owned and beat a 350x with it, and he said it would never beat a 400ex, but I have heard different.
To make a long story short, what quads do you know of that can beat a 400ex in a drag race, and please have some kind of proof.

Let's see, Raptor, Banshee, Sport/Scrambler, LT 500, LT 250, TRX250R. My proof is good ole' common sense.

 

ok ur full of **** theres no way a scrambler or a sport will take a 400ex and it would be a close one wid a 250 quad racer remember!!! the 400ex is rated over anythin on the track & throygh the woods

 

I agree that a 400EX will get outrun by most of the machines Quadfather mentioned. However, against my dads modified Scrambler pipe, reeds and clutch kit. Lets just say your common sense goes out the window after about the first 100yds. My 400EX only had a Sparks exhaust and CT rev box. After the initial launch my 400EX just kept gaining speed and really after about 200yds. it wasnt even a race anymore. Also my brother was on the Scrambler and he weighs almost the same as me.

Several years ago we had a Tecate 4 and it was very fast and quick. My best guess as I remember the Tecate is that stock for stock the Tecate was at least a little quicker.

hello? What about the DS650! Dang. Raptor, ds, both LT's, honda R, banshee, tecate will all beat a stock 400ex in a drag race..but what does that prove?

 

This is not intended to put down the 400ex, it is intended to prove to a "20 yr old, snotty nose, smart a$$, know it all kid", that he does not know everything.
I just read the reviews on the 400ex at quadreviews.com, and one kid said he has a 400ex and his buddy has a Tecate4, and the 400ex owner said the Tecate4 "runs circles around me", that doesn't sound like the 400 got beat by a few inches, sounds more like the 400ex got smoked.
Like I said before, I am buying a new 400ex, and this "I'm better, Your better" stuff means nothing to me. But this kid, really, really needs to hear this from real riders, and be put in his place! I have to do it because he is family, and I have no choice but to talk to him. It makes me sick when he starts a conversation about atv's, he knows absolutly nothing about what he is talking about, and I have seen him ride, he is a joke!! I am just SOOO sick of hearing him talk out of his A$$!! All he ever says is "nothing can ever beat a 400ex in any catagory", I say "OK you love the 400ex, so do I, but be realistic!". He seems to think I have no idea what I am talking about!

Sorry, I forgot the DS, I was in a hurry. The DS will also stomp the 400 EX.

 

My only proof would be common sense that a 650 Raptor or DS and Banhee will kill a 400EX in a drag, because a extra 250 cc is a large advantage and so is having a 350 twin 2troke.It's not that a 400EX is slow ,but if Honda even made a 450EX it would have a advantage over a 400EX in a drag race let alone if they made a 650EX size bike like Yamaha and Bomdadier have.

 

Hey, Hey now I hear alot of ignorant comments. I raced 5 times in Am on my all stock 2001 400EX fully spark arrested and this was my first year. To begin with I will start off with the DS650 because susposably common sence would tell you that 250 more cc's would make some thing faster, it would almost seem that untill you see how heavy they are. Second race off the line I beat the DS650 by about four or five 4-wheeler lengths in about a 100 yard whole shot, and the worst part about the race was watching him land off jumps on tape with all that weight. Now we can more on to the Banshee. Now this is suppose to be faster because a 350 Twin 2-stroke. I have never rode one but my first race there wasnt one ahead of me and I am looking at the pictures right now to prove that, if i ever get a scanner I will send it to you. What else was the 400EX slower than? Ohh yeah the LT's thats a joke, they dont even race them. And I dont want to hear no talk about a scrambler either. They are nice same with all the new quads but its not a comparison. The Raptor 660R is suppose to be competition with the 400EX. I raced one and beat him out of the whole and overall, but he was just out for fun and to see how it feels and said he wasn't out for competition. But what I do know is Yamaha declined the oppertunity to race the 400EX with the Raptor 660R for publisity purposes, so you can get what you want out of that. Now the legendary 250R's. Amazing quad, the 400EX was made based after the 250R. All the pro's race 250R's and some race 400EX's and there is no Banshee's or DS's in there. I got 3rd and 4th out of the whole and you know the 3 guys who beat me were on 250R's. The thing is they all normally have ALOT of money into them, and I stress alot!! There is the facs I have for you and can back them all upall the way, so was your cousin right? No, but the people who say that there are alot of things that are faster were definitly not right either. I will be getting a 2002 raptor when they come out next year and can't wait to get on one and feel the comparison.
