Wolverine 450...HELP
#2
One of the magazines did a comparison in the April issue. Don't have it here in front of me, but I will post it when I can find it.
The KFX is a huge tank, and should never be anything but a last resort for guys who are so huge they can't fit on anything else.....and that sure isn't you. What in the world is it about this machine that is attractive to you?????

The aritcle is in the April issue of ATV Sport. It's a "comparison" of the non utility CVT machines, the Scrambler 500, Wolverine 450, Kawi 700, and Renegade 800.
Not surprisingly the dated and not at all sporty Polaris comes out the worst. The Kawil is judged as being quirkey, and gets dissed big time for not having engine-compression braking and its rough ride. The Renegade gets a good reveiw, but it is huge and heavy and way way way expensive.
So, the Wolverine wins! "The Yamaha is predictable, nimble, stable has independent braking and it's a good fit for all but the really big riders. Plus, the price is right."
If you are interested in the Wolverine, I would highly suggest that you also take a good look at the new Honda Rancher 420. It is fast, nimble, fuel injected, water cooled, and has a VERY sporty ride........and it doesn't have the Wolverines foo foo automatic transmission! The only thing I diss the Rancher for is being to heavy.
I would like to see the magazines do a shootout between these two, because the Rancher fits in the Wolverine class more than it is in the utility class. I would like to see Honda come out with a lightened up Rancher, without the racks and heavy steel rims, etc. It would be the perfect "hybrid" machine!

Definetly the Wolverine, I love mine and wouldnt trade it for anything.
The epi clutch kit and K&N make a great difference, I dont know about the dynojet as I am waiting to get a GYTR exhaust before I install mine.
But I think that the KFX would be too big and bulky for the riding around here.

If you would like you may suggest a different atv than the two i named. please also take into account that i want to have fun with it you know wheelies, donuts, spit mud at my friends that kind of stuff.
About the no compression braking; ha ha ha ha ha.........if someone told me that I would tell them to learn to ride!!!! These are expert test riders? Ha ha ha ha ha.............I would point out what the left and right levers on the handlebar are for.
If you said you like to jump and MX then I would say that this is not the quad for you. You did not mention either so?????? If you just like to screw around, there is no better machine than the 700. If you want to jump and all of that other stuff, there are better machines out there.
Reconranger you fascinate me with your response. I know you don't like the 700. That is clear, and I'm cool with that. To each his own. What I find really bizarre is from your other posts you like the Warrior as much as the KFX 700. And yet you recomend a 4X Warrior? Pretty much that is what a wolverine is...... a Warrior with a 4X front end.
What's up with that?

No Turbo, get your history straight. The NEW Wolverine 450 4X4 isn't anything like the Warrior or even the old Wolverine (and just for the record the Warrior was the absolutely worst quad I ever owned!). The old Wolverine had the same engine as the Warrior, but that's absolutely all they had in common. I actually don't like the new Wolverine much either, but I sure do like the old Wolverine better than the new one.
He gave us a choice between two rather odball machines, neither of which I would personally waste my hard earned money on. There are so many wonderful machines out there, don't make the mistake of limiting yourself to just these two.......

The epi clutch kit is at www.erlandsonperformance.com and after the installation there is really no maintainance.

Last year DW had a Scrammy/Wolverine comparison (just those 2) and they chose (barely) the Scrammy.
