how to keep your quad from getting stolen
#1
Im a bit nervous cuz im 19 n live in an apartment. I just bought a 05 450R about 3 weeks ago
and I have to store it in my parents Garage. Its a 3 car garage with 3 cars blocking the doors
with my quad in front. Well 2 nights ago my riding buddy had his 450R stolen right out of his
garage (yes the door was closed and thers no side doors) so this makes me real nervous.
If anybody has any opinions of how to keep ther quad safe and secure so nobody can steal them
I would love to hear it beacuse like I said im a bit nervous and couldnt picture waking up in the
morning and fiding out my $5000 quad was stolen....

Start by insuring it! It's the only completely fail safe thing you can do.
I just chain my quads together in a big circle, using Kryptonite "Fagedaboudit" locks and chains. Having only one machine though, you don't have that option. (You just need to get a second quad!) Is there anything in the garage that you can chain it to that is to big to more, like a pole or a piece of equipment? If not, there are ground anchors you can get and place in the concrete, and chain them to that.

I was thinking about taking all 4 wheels off when im done riding. I only ride twice a week
and it would only take about 15 or 20 mins to put them back on...I dunno its the only idea
I can think of. I dont wanna chain it to anything beacuse theifs can easly bring bolt cutters.
I was going to store the tires at my house beacuse my 4 wheeler is at my parents.

no matter what ya do , if a theive wants it they can get it , you can tak the tire off but if their are 4 of them they can load it up in a truck almost as quick as if it had tires , best thing you can do is insure it

I live out in the country and I rarely ride around my home. I have 3 quads and when I go somewhere to ride, I load up and go. When I get back I put them away fast. I try not to advertise that I have them. I figure that the less people that know they are here, the better.

like the guys here have said, "if they want bad enough, they will get it. one year ago february i got ripped off at my cabin in spokane. before leaveing for the winter, i had my kawasaki prairie chained to my 16' boat in the garage. my old chevy pick up i leave at the cabin was parked cross ways in front of the garage roll up door for security. there are no side door or window to the garage, so the theives simply tore off to 4'x8'sections of T1-11 sideing on the side of garage, went in and started shopping. they didnt get the boat because of the pick up in front of door as i had both wheels of truck removed. they cut the lock on chain and stole the 4 wheeler, generator, welder, aircompressor, ect. my home owners insurance paid for lost items, even the 4 wheeler. but, i had a separate policy on the prairie for fire and theft, and thats the reason it was replaced. (new '05 rubicon) had i not had a separate policy, my insurance would not have replaced it, so thats something you might want to check with you insurance agent. well, of course now i have burglar alarms on the atv, thicker chain and lock, 44 S&W w/10inch barrel sighted in, but know thats only fugil as if they want it, they will figure a way to get it. the only relief is i still of course have the rubicon insured. its a extra 25.00 montly but gives me peice of mind.

I agree with what has been said here so far. Kryptonite locks, chain, cable or equilivent. Don't waste your money on cheap locks. I like to use thick steel cable instead of chain because bolt cutters that most theives use won't work on cable. Run the chain or cable through the frame and attach it to something big and solid that can't be moved or unbolted. And something I don't think anybody has mentioned yet... keep the thing out of sight. Keep it covered even over the tires so you can't tell what it is when stored, don't leave it all day in the back of your truck in the driveway, etc. The fewer people that know you have it, the better. If you are still really worried about it then get it insured.
