Honda 420 2007
#4
Well, since the 07 has many upgrades over the 06, I must say I like it better. Fuel injection, liquid cooling etc. The 06 350 rancher is like the old honda trail 70's. They are very reliable, cheap and they'll be around for decades.

Unless price is absolutely the limiting factor, pass up the old 350 and get the 420....it's that much better!
As far as ES goes, there has historically been a lot of posts in here about problems with it. The angle sensor is now the subject of a recall, and maybe that has been everybody's problem all along and that will be the fix....who knows.
For me personally it's a pretty simple choice, because why would I spend an extra $200 on a system that I neither need nor really want? I could however see that if one were in the mud and water a lot, or had to wear big winter boots or something where foot shifting was difficult, that the ES might make sense.
