Make sure the filter is clean and dry. Saturate it with oil, then squeze out the excess. It may seem like a whole lot of oil on there........but better safe than sorry.....even a little dirt will toast your valves.

The oils are colored so it makes it easy to see what areas youve missed. I use a plastic bag, and put the filter in there, and add oil, then just knead the filter till its all coated.

......and squeze out the excess oil, but never "wring" it out because it will damage the filter.

just a response to the K&N question: Are their filters that bad at filtering (or not)? Have you seen any quads with cylinder or valve damage due to a K&N? Should I put the stock foam filter back in or do you recommend an aftermarket foam filter? I will be seeing some sand this summer and am a little concerned. Thanx.

I ran K&N's with Outerwears for a while. Every time I would take off a dirty filter, I would wiper the intake boot out with a clean white cloth. It would always come out with a thin film of dust on it. While I think it did a pretty good job on the big stuff, clearly it was passing some very fine stuff! I just don't trust them. You have to decide if you want to play it safe, or maybe play it risky and pay the price in reduced engine life..........

I highly recommend the ProDesign foam filter (their filters are made by UNI) along with the EHS Racing airbox lid.

Default questions on foam filter

I am looking to play it safe on this one. While power is good, I don't want to sacrifice long term engine wear for a little more airflow. what kind of prices could I expect to pay for these products? I plan on keeping this quad for a long time and I want to take care of the "little things" before they become big problems. I'm an auto technician by trade and everything I drive has a K&N. I thought I would be doing right by putting in the K&N filter and powerlid. Of course, my daily drivers aren't out in the mud/sand like my 450r. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
