Anybody DIY Frame Swap
#1
A little help Please,
I'm going to do a R&R, (remove and replace) on my 2006, AC, 500 Auto FIS main frame. I bent the frame at the front, top, right A Arm. Has anybody replaced a frame themselves recently? I'm looking for any wisdom/advise before I begin the tear down. Special concerns, special tools, any none reuseable parts etc.
I will have the new frame side by side with the quad. I'm sure it will be a first off, last on scenario. I intend on taking notes during tear down and taking digital photos during tear down as well. I'm seeking tips such as: it is possible to remove the engine with the drive lines and differentials attached and install the same way. I don't want to disassemble things that are not absolutly necessary. Any advise from those of you who have done this with a similar ATV would be greatly appreciated.
I intend on buying insurance after the repair.... Lesson learned.
Thanks in advance.

I used to be an AC mechanic and have done several. Some quick advise would be to remove brake calipers and then pull the whole a-arms and cv shafts all in one piece to save time. Unbolt the front and rear drive shaft's from the engine to pull the diffs. You cannont remove the brakes without taking some lines apart, so don't try. Once you get the plastic off and start seeing what needs to be done, you'll realize that it's not really very hard at all. Once you get good at it you and an experienced friend can get one done in about 5 hours. There really aren't any special tools required at all, just your metric and standard wrench and socket set, and a torx bit. You really won't believe just how easy it really is. Good luck and have fun.
