Hey guys, Do I need to lube any part of my drive or driven clutch? I checked the service manual and the search feature without coming up with anything. My problem (besides being an internet junky) is that my drive clutch hangs up about 2 or 3 mm in when I'm reving the engine. At first the clutch slides in smoothly as I rev the engine, but then sticks about 2-3 mm in. Then about 2300 RPMs the clutch squeaks and then starts to slide in smoothly, again. The weird thing is that it sticks well before the sheaves engage the belt. The clutch works great, except it lerches when starting out because of the sticking. Help!

60 hours is early for primary bushings, but that is what is sounds like.

 

Hmm...That doesn't sound good. Can the bushings be replaced or is the whole drive clutch bad?

 

Bushings are replacable. Requires a puller and a special tool to remove the spider.

 

I think you're right. I pulled the belt and wiggled the clutch and it seems there is some play between the bearing and the spacer. How snug is the barring supposed to be to the spacer?

 

Here is an exploded view. You need to enter your info, then you need to click on the drop down tab and find Drive clutch. I tryed to do it for you in the link, but it won't let me!

I see one bushing p/n, but I don't see the bushing that goes into the cover with the 3 sets of 2 bolts(6 total) in it.

If you decide you need a whole clutch, think about an 800 primary! Much more low end torque! You would need an 800 belt too! [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-disgusted.gif[/img]

$22 for the bearing isn't bad, but I looked up how to replace the bearing in the service manual and it looks like I need about $300 in tools :-) Is there a cheaper way to do it or should I take it to a shop?
