Good chace of rings or valve seals. Has the machine sat for a period of time... if so maybe the valves seals dried up and cracked or something...
Or maybe the top end was not getting lubricated properly.
A compression test will tell you about the rings.
If not the rings try putting some Marvel Mystery Oil in your gas. That will help keep the top end lubricated and if your valve seals are bad it my soften them up some.

Overfilling the oil after a change can do this also. Alot of 650 owners will tell you to fill the oil to just over 3/4 full on the stick after its threaded all the way in. If you fill it all the way to the full mark, it can blow back up through

Mudspy, you want to talk about oil burning issues, pm me and I will vent about it, I have an 06 V2, love the machine when it stays out of the shop and I can keep oil in it. My last ride, 20 miles 1litre of oil!!! 2 top end rebuilds in a total of 700-800 miles. 2 sets of timing chains etc, etc, etc.

Doober - some pretty cool pictures of the kids playing in the mud (the big, older kid too - lol).
The only difference between men and boys are the expense of their toys....
