Polaris 500 Sortsman belt
#1
Just bought a 2002 Sportsman 500 for my oldest. The belt shreded yesturday. Can anyone tell me how to put the new one on? I laso am wondering about the clutch hub the grooves go different than the grooves on the new belt. The clutch grooves look like a late model GM pulley and the belt gorrves go crossways. Is this right? and how to i put it on?
Thanks this is a great forum!

welcome. i bought a 700 belt to go on my 02 500 as it has tog cogs to help cool it better. you must already have the clutch cover off so basicly put the belt onthe front clutch first then w/ the wheeler in neutral start rolling it on the top of the back clutch. some times you can push the back sheeve on the rear clutch apart and side the belt on at the same time. just kep rolling the belt towards the back on the bike and it will go on. oh and yes some belts have grooves both ways on them.

I found out that we have the 500 with and EB. Didn't know what that meant but the parts guy said the belts are made differently. The EB belt has small grooves the same as mine did the other without has no extra grooves. I couldn't get the rear halves spread so i put the belt on the clutch and rolled the belt on while pushing it backwards. Must have worked becasue it's working now. Thanks!
