Piston Upgrade 05 450r ????? which one to do
#1
okay so I have an 05 450r with the HRC cam all the other bolt ons, filter, jets, exhaust, rev box, bla bla bla but I need a little more... The big thing here is I want to be able to run pump gas so what should I do.... I was thinking 12:1 compression but who knows.... Any ideas....
Also I have a nearly stock 450r , all we did to this was put a UNI filter on it and remove the end cap of the exhaust... I would like to change the piston in this too but dont know what to do, maybe 11:5 or what.... Thanks

I would go with an ice cube I have heard good things about them and they are well designed and have a little bling to them...I would problably go with the setup and compression that you say you are going to go with and you may want to change out your clutch for the extra power that the 450r is going to be making and your valve springs and you can get the intake ported if you haven't already.

I had a Wiseco 11.5-1 piston in my 04. It would get grumpy on 92 octane. I would put just a splash of 110 in it and it would run better. I don't think I ever had to go higher than a 95 octane mix, but I wouldn't try 12-1 on pump gas.

12:1 is about as high as you are going to want to go and still run pump gas. You may see a little hit in the performance. My buddy put a 12:1 piston in his 05 R and he mixes about a half tank of pump 92 with half tank of 110 race fuel and it seems to do the trick.
My question to you is, what is your reasoning for wanting to up the compression? Are you going to be racing it where you need every bit of extra power? If not, I wouldn't make that type of upgrade. The 450R is already a beast and the engine will last forever with normal maintenance. I'm just an advocate for keeping the engine stock. Not trying to talk you out of it.

My bad I didn't see you wanted to run on pump gas...I would try 11.5:1 like the others recommended then and still go with the ice cube...If you want to spend a little more on gas each time you ride which it might be hard to get I would go with a 12:1...My bad
