Default My First ATV

I've studied. I've read reviews. Visited all of my dealerships. And now I'm a (very) proud owner of a Outlander Max 800 XT !!! Weather here in Montana sucks a little and haven't had much time on it. I'm hoping this coming weekend offers some sunshine. I know nothing about engines and will probably come here alot with questions . So far I just bought a couple of bags, other than that its stock. I plan on getting some ricochet skids in the near future. Maybe a 2" receiver as well. Still breaking in the engine, so I haven't had a chance to open it up yet, but the little I did get on the throttle... WOW!!! Power is awesome. Seat is comfortable. Ride feels good on the dirt road with potholes/washboards. Only had the chance to ride it a few times after work and just once this weekend but I have Saturday set aside for some quality time with my new baby.

Couple of questions for ya.
I saw a post with some pictures telling me that the CVT will drain if you remove the bottom right screw. Should I still install a CVT drain if this is true? I'm not into mudding and such, but during hunting season I may come across the occasional stream. Also, anything else (besides skids) I may want to change or upgrade?

Thanks

Funny you said that. Ive been trying to talk the wife into letting me get a Quad for a while now. After finally breaking her down and getting this, on the way out of the dealership she looked at the Outty LTD and asked why I didn't get that one!!! Yup, I was really kicking myself when she said that. GPS woulda been nice come hunting season. Oh well. Thought she woulda **** a brick when she saw the price tag, so I went with the one I got.

great choice on your bike.......i have an 500xt and my dad just got a 800xtboth 2007 models. now i'm not sure about just removing one screw to let the water out but here's what i do know. with the 500 after it was submerged and tok 2 hondas to pull me out lol. we didn't know about water and mud being able to get in. that mistake cost me 500.00. that will never happen again. i've put snorkle's on both bikes and sealed the cover so no more debris can find it's way in. with the snorkle kit on the 500 it has boosted it's power by a bunch. the 800 has to but not that it needed it. when i get the pictures developed i'll be the first to post them. i've got plenty to show on how i put the snorkles on.

Good choice on the quad. It will pull almost anything you throw at it. Got any buds with quads?? They wont want to ride with you because you'll be showing them up all the time, but when they getting stuck, they will be calling your name haha

Yeah, Ive got one bud with a quad. Think its a polaris 500. Should smoke him easily. He's on honeymoon in Vegas now so i'll have to let him eat my dust when he gets back. Just as well, I'm still breaking in the engine anyways.
Notice your using a KN filter DVXDUDE. Is something like that necissary? Should I get one? Keep in mind im a total beginner!

If this is your first quad be careful, you canl tell in the first 5 minutes why these things kill people on a regular basis.

here's my suggestion to you on the k&n filter......why not......but do you really need one? have you taken the cover off and gotten into your air box yet. also my 500xt did 70 mph before i put the snorkle kit on it and i know it's faster now. the 800 pased me at 70 like it was nothing. so it all comes down to how fast are you willing to go. just enjoy the new toy for awile and get used to it before you get into modifying.

No. I haven't taken off the cover and gotten into the airbox. This thing is fresh off the lot. I wouldn't consider the KN for more power but I would for better protection. I dont need to go 70mph. 69 maybe. But not 70
